Is Blogging a Legit Hobby?

I remember my ex-girlfriend used to hound me about finding a hobby, and I always used to ignore her because I always thought that I had one. To me, working on my movie collection was a hobby, but I don't think she ever quite got that. I mean, it didn't really require much effort; all I did was make sure I bought DVDs of movies that I really liked or I thought others would want to watch. It wasn't as intensive as scrapbooking, but it fulfilled me.

I'm no longer with her, and maybe my lack of outside interests had something to do with the break-up, but for some reason her insistence that I find a hobby has always stuck with me. Sometimes I wonder if my life would be better if I had something to occupy my time that did not involve work, but then I realized that's what blogging does for me. Then I stared to question to legitimacy of blogging as a hobby.

I don't see why blogging cannot be considered a hobby. I spend time, thought, and effort coming up with entries that mean something to me and those who stumble across my writing just like my ex-girlfriend used to do with her scrapbooks. That has to count for something, right?

Then I start to wonder about whether there's a stigma about blogging since it usually involves spending hours upon hours in front of a computer and sometimes doesn't require that much human interaction. But it does. People from all around the world can share a moment with me through my blog, which cannot be said about most hobbies. It's just different.

To me, Blogger, Wordpress, Tumblr, and Twitter are equal to greenhouses, art supply stores, and libraries. And what's wrong with that. I'm a blogger and proud of it.

Identity Crisis

So, for the last couple of years I've been writing about TV, movies, pop culture, etc. over at poppas2cents.com, but after kicking around some name ideas for a podcast I've been wanting to start up with a friend, I came up with the moniker Wannabe Savant. Since that's pretty much what I am right now, the name's starting to grow on me, but I've spent so much time and effort on my other site, that I'm torn on which route I want to go. For now, I'll be sticking with My Two-Cents, but I'll tinker around with this blog as well. I'm sure I'll figure something out.
